Dealing with acne at any age

  • Don’t stress!

Research shows that we produce more sebum, which blocks the hair follicles and causes breakouts, when we experience anxiety and stress.

Sometimes, stress-related acne can trigger a vicious circle: you start worrying about your imperfect complexion, so you break out even more. This is especially true for women over the age of 30.

Claudia Fallah tip: I always recommend Magnesium to lower stress levels, since magnesium is necessary for detox of cortisol. It affects the sympathetic nervous system and norepinephrine releases, which causes cortisol release as part of your stress response.

Magnesium is essential for the detoxification of cortisol as well and adequate levels help to return you to a more relaxed state.

  • Eat healthily

It may be a myth that French fries cause pimples, but that doesn't mean your eating habits don't affect your skin.

To promote healthy skin in general, we recommend drinking plenty of water, eating lots of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, and choosing foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids. You should also avoid artificial colourings, flavourings, preservatives and sweeteners.

Claudia Fallah tip: drinking plenty of water and eating healthy ( add more greens to your diet) make's  a lot of difference to your energy level and also your internal ph-level which will reflect also in your skin.

  • Keep your face clean

Whether you're 15 or 51, residue on the skin creates a breeding ground for pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. Avoid this scenario by maintaining a simple cleansing routine.

But that doesn't mean scouring off every trace of grime with harsh soaps and aggressive scrubbing. In fact, washing your face too much can actually worsen acne by stripping the skin of lipids and increasing irritation.

Other Claudia Fallah tips: I always say to my clients to "keep it clean keep it simple".

It's the 3 steps, cleanse - tone- moisturise.

With acne you will also have have to use the right 3 steps of skincare products since I find that majority of acne cleanser's / skincare products dry out the skin and create a vicious circle by the skin to produce more sebum (oil) therefore I would recommend our 3 step skincare routine: Azulene Facial Wash, Calming Herbal Lotion, First edition of Energizing Beauty Fluid to nourish /moisturise.
