Skincare for men – Claudia Fallah’s top tips for Summer 2017
1) Cleanse your skin
For most men, skin tends to get oily throughout the day in certain areas, even in winter. Excess oil can stick to the skin and block the pores, preventing your razor from gliding along the skin smoothly. So before you shave, wash your face with water and Claudia Fallah’s Azulene Foam Active Gel.
Claudia’s top tip: Always wash your skin with luke warm water especially if you are suffering with skin concerns like redness, rosacea, acne, dry or oily skin. It's also important to use a mild cleanser!
DO NOT USE SOAP since soap has an alkaline ph and will strip your skin of its natural acidity leaving your skin vulnerable to bacteria/dehydration and it also gets you into a vicious circle regarding your skin concerns/skin conditions. I know guy's like to jump into the shower and wash their face and hair at the same time. Please make sure that your shampoo does not cause a skin reaction onto your face.
2) Get ready for shaving
Before you pull out the razor, splash your face with warm water after you cleanse it, which will open up the pores. Then apply a light layer of pre-shaving foam gel or mousse to keep the skin moist and warm. The smoother the skin, the closer the shave.
Claudia’s top tip: If you do suffer from acne I would advice a dry shave since you don't want to spread an infection across your face when shaving.
3) Use a moisturiser day and night
Applying moisturising cream to your skin day and night will keep it hydrated, allowing for a smoother shave. Moisturising will also help prevent cuts, irritation and flare up's.
Claudia’s top tip: It depends if your skin is oily or dry but for oily skin I would always suggest a very light serum/moisturiser (our first edition of the Energizing Beauty Fluid) this serum is very soothing, calming and nourishing providing your skin with a healthy look.
With dry skin I would always suggest our Intensive Repair Creme especially if your skin is prone to redness or rosacea. Great for hydrating when you are travelling on aeroplane's a lot.
4) Drink plenty of water
Your skin loses moisture throughout the day, so it’s important to keep it moisturised by drinking plenty of water. Aim to drink at least 2-2.5 litres of water a day, especially in the warmer months when your body is sweating.
Claudia’s top tip: Bottled water or filtered tap water can be better than straight from the tap water. Please don't just drink tap water since it contains Oestrogen levels which can't be filtered out and may lead to fertility issues.
5) Don’t overdo your sugar intake
Indulge once in a while, but don’t turn Starbuck’s caramel lattes into a daily thing. High-sugar diets cause inflammation, which can lead to breakouts. Cookies, cake and soft drinks are obvious offenders; but don’t forget to check the grams of sugar in seemingly healthy or savoury-tasting foods, like flavoured yogurt, cereal and protein bars. These unsuspecting sugar bombs can deliver a huge dose of the sweet stuff without being classified as dessert.
Claudia’s top tip: There are a lot of hidden sugar traps in a lot of food's especially in food's you think are healthy like fruits and even carrots. Be aware of your alcohol consumption.
