The importance of exfoliating

Be gentle

It might seem that applying pressure and rough strokes while exfoliating is the key to removing those loose skin cells, but being too aggressive will actually damage the skin.

If you find that you experience irritation even after exfoliating with a gentler hand, use other methods of improved skincare to reduce the need to exfoliate in the first place.

Claudia Fallah tip: It's important when you are already suffering with sensitive, stressed, irritated skin and other various skin conditions like rosacea to be gentle in order not to cause any more stress to your skin.

Normally with these skin conditions you should be very careful with exfoliation and in some cases you won't be able to exfoliate at all. Therefore I have developed an exfoliant many years ago that is gentle enough even for the most delicate skin to be able to exfoliate. I have chosen very fine rice particles to also avoid clients who suffer from nut allergies combined with a very soothing calming addictive aroma that makes you feel ready to take on the world and gives you a glow for any occasion.

Don’t over exfoliate

Generally, you may want to exfoliate your face twice a week, but there are a few factors that could affect how often you should do it. If you have delicate or sensitive skin, twice a week might be too much and could cause some irritation. 

If you are on holiday in a warmer climate or your skin is naturally oily, you might have to exfoliate more than twice a week to accommodate a higher buildup of dead skin cells.

Claudia Fallah tip: Don't over exfoliate if you are on a beach holiday or high up in the mountains skiing since this can cause more irritation and discolouration to your skin.

Don’t forget to moisturise 

While exfoliating may rid your complexion of loose dead skin cells so your face looks fresher with a brighter glow, it also removes what helps keep your skin moisturised.

Claudia Fallah tip: when you exfoliate in moderation you will also see that your skin is able to absorb a higher percentage of the nutrient's in your moisturiser/serum and you will get maximum benefits from your skincare product.

The thing to keep in mind is the goal of exfoliation. It should leave your skin feeling softer and looking healthier, not red and irritated. 

If you over-exfoliate, you could end up doing more harm than good. Avoid using an exfoliating tool or cleanser near your eyes, as this skin is far too sensitive and doesn't need exfoliation.
