SPF (SUN PROTECTION FACTOR) – measures the product’s ability to screen or block out the sun’s burning rays. 

UVA (ULTRAVIOLET A RAYS)
95% of the sun rays that hit the earth’s surface and our skin
Biggest contributor to the leathering and wrinkling of skin
30-50x more prevalent than UVB rays
Can penetrate glass
Present on cloudy days
May cause certain types of skin cancer

UVB (ULTRAVIOLET B RAYS)
More likely to cause sunburn than UVA rays
5% of the sun’s rays and UVB and are the rays that hit the surface of our skin
Are the primary cause of melanoma
These rays vary by day, season or location
Strongest between 10am and 4pm

PA+ 
The rating of UVA protection PA++++ is the highest protection available
